Hailing from Clarenville, Newfoundland and Labrador, Shawn Bennett is a multi-faceted musician who burst on to the Canadian orchestral scene in a big way in 2023. Based in Toronto, ON, he was recently named one of the inaugural Artistic Directors of the Laurier Academy of Music & Arts "NextGen Youth Orchestra," and maintains a dynamic freelance conducting practice besides. He holds Bachelors degrees in Music Performance (Trombone) and Music Education from Memorial University of Newfoundland, as well as a Masters degree in Orchestral Conducting from the University of Toronto. Shawn has conducted or performed with numerous professional and educational ensembles throughout his career, some highlights of which include with l'Orchestre Métropolitain de Montréal, the Winnipeg Symphony Orchestra, and Orchestra Toronto, all in 2023. In addition to conducting, he has built a career as a beloved music educator to students of all ages, and currently teaches at the Sterling Hall School in North York, ON.
